David Funnell, Cherry Tree Pet Crematorium

Cherry Tree Gentle Farewells has been founded by David Funnell, who over the past 20 years has helped owners and family’s through the loss of pet family members with the well-respected Cherry Tree Pet Crematorium.

Over this time our bonds with our pet family members has inevitably grown stronger, and the loss more traumatic. Our pets have become as much a part of our family as our human family members. With this in mind, and the fact that many modern veterinary surgery’s home visits have become much less available, it leaves the only option for euthanasia to be at the surgery in clinical surroundings. This is more stressful for not only our pets, but also for their owners. Cherry Tree Gentle Farewells can provide a gentle, peaceful euthanasia service in your own home, or in our new bespoke homely clinic at Cherry Tree. This is not rushed and allows you the time that you need to say goodbye to your loved pet family member.

We have teamed up with a local vet, Dr Nicola Carrier (previously from Weald Home Vets) who has a vast amount of home euthanasia experience and well known for being kind, caring and compassionate. David has known Nicola professionally for many years, not only from looking after her own dog, but also through client’s that had used Weald Home Vets service. David witnessed first-hand the compassionate service when he called upon Nicola to help his family sadly say goodbye to a beloved family pet in the comfort of their own home. He saw just how peaceful the euthanasia was at home, and how so much of the stress was taken away from having this performed on a home visit.

With this new calibration of two well respected service providers, we are confident that you will find our home visit service personal, comforting and above all, a stress-free service in your familiar home surroundings.

Importantly we are here to help you through your loss.

Meet the team

Dr Nicola Carrier BVetMed MRCVS

I qualified as a vet from The Royal Veterinary College in 2007. I live with my Husband, Daughter and two dogs. In my spare time I enjoy walking my dogs and competing at agility. My older dog is now sadly retired from agility, but I am trying to bring my crazy youngster on! I love to go visit Cornwall and to go on holiday there as a family (including the dogs of course!)

Jess Watson MRCVS

I graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2019. In my spare time I enjoy reading, crafting and walking along the seafront. I am currently trying to master gluten free baking.

Sandra Cherry, receptionist

I was born in Tenterden and still live locally. I have worked as a veterinary receptionist for 22 years. I have two Border Collies who are 5 years old and 15 months old. I have been competing at agility for 24 years and now run my own training club. I still compete regularly with my older dog and am busy training my puppy.
